Just want to throw up a quick blurb about this past weekend. I think it's safe to say everyone had a great time at one point or another this weekend. There was something for everyone. Here's a quick breakdown of the events that happened:
Thursday
Some of us early birds who drove out wednesday night did a couple loop runs on thursday. It was a ton of fun.
Friday
On friday the bulk of the gang went and did the lower yough. We had some new-to-the-yough paddlers go down with us in 2-man and 4-man shredders. Good times were had by all.
Saturday
On saturday the groups split up. Some went and did the Casselman, while others anxiously awaited the latest USGS readings on the Upper Big Sandy, finally deciding to play it safe and paddle the Lower Yough again. The level was a bit higher (2.5), and provided a litte more punch than the friday trip
Sunday
Most of the group split up on Sunday. Some left straight for home, some paddled bits of the Yough, while a small group of us went and paddled the Savage.
The Savage
I just want to say the the Savage was INCREDIBLE! Major thanks to Ed for letting us know about it, and likewise our entire group for keeping each other safe. I can say without a doubt paddling the Savage was a team effort. While we originally thought we had too many people in our group (9), we pretty much all stayed together throughout the run and made it down with minimal troubles.
I want to take this opportuinty to strongly encourage all of you to become members of American Whitewater. It is because of a 10-year struggle on their part that the Savage is now scheduled to have any recreational releases. Do your part, spend the $35 and support those who support our sport!
Multimedia
We have about 6 Gigabytes of Pictures & Video from the weekend (including 2 gigs of helmet cam video of the Savage (55 minuters) including steve's swim, and some crazy moves, enders, and rolls from the group). As soon as we get it sorted out, we'll make it available to those who want copies. We'll probably have an A/V night in NCC soon.
