Hello Everyone,
As the leaders of the local paddling community I am asking you to spread the word via your websites, paddling friends, etc. about vehicles speeding down and up the access road at Rockport.
I have just gotten off the phone with a very smart, very well-spoken, very angry woman who lives on that road near the metal bridge in the few houses of Rockport. She is livid at rafting company trucks and buses going too fast past her peaceful home. I promised her that our vehicles will never go no faster than 9 mph on that road. She then railed against all the cars with canoes and kayaks speeding up and down this road. She has called every governing body she could find to do something about it, and then she called me.
My promise to her was that I would obviously control my employees going up and down that road in Jim Thorpe River Adventures buses and trucks… that they would go 9 mph or less any time they are on that road. I also promised her I would call the other outfitters and tell them the same thing.
After thinking about it I thought I would send you folks an email… to do what you can to slow the vehicles on that road, whether it is your vehicle, the vehicles of those that paddle with you, your club members, and anyone to whom you can get this information.
We can’t control everyone, but together we can affect the speed of a lot of people by reminding people all the time to go 9 mph on that road. If enough landowners get together with lawyers, they could affect our access there for sure and/or make things difficult in the future.
If you or I lived there we’d be pissed off, too… again and again, water release after water release. So I’m sending this to you as a request that you do something about this in your world, and change what you can.
So post something on your message boards to this effect, and spread the word.
I thank you, and keep up the good work. Let me know if I can ever do anything for you. And let me know if and when you post this information on your website so that I can keep this woman informed of how we’re voluntarily getting the word out to slow down.
Peace,
Jerry McAward
