This sounds like a really cool competition.  This would be a really tough challenge for us though, as all of our local rivers (even the big ones) are not very steep.

According to Eddy Flower:

Lower Yough - 220 foot drop

Tohickon - 155 foot drop

Lower Lehigh - 225 foot drop

Casselman - 180 foot drop

Upper Lehigh - No info

And alot of the others aren't on Eddy Flower's website  (Muddy, Cheat, Gunpowder, Octoraro)

That being said, if anyone is interested in doing this, I might be up for it.  If nothing else than to set a bench mark for next year, and a good excuse to paddle as much as possible.

Re: EddyFlower Vertical Challenge

Teams from Utah are in a similar situation so they are rallying teams and competing amongst them selves to see who are the top dogs in UT...i am pulling together some prizes for the UT winners...so that is an option as well.

In any case keep in mind the challenge raises coin for young adults with cancer and drives AW memberships...its all for fun and for a good purpose.

To track the top DE or UT teams maybe we could create another Standings report that sorts teams by State then Vertical...just a thought

Shoot me a list of runs you would like added for the comp and I can work on getting them uploaded.  I may need some help on locations, elevations etc...

We are also creating a ladies only division this year...event is gonna be fun.

Well, a realistic goal would be to get 1 team from DE to compete.  We're a pretty small state.  However, I'll try to reach out to the CCC & PCC and see if they would be interested in competing with us, as they are located near roughly the same rivers.  Yeah, you're right about the good cause too, i didn't mean to overlook that.

Lets see if we can get some more interest drummed up here, I just talked to Steve Cope and he has committed to doing this, and I'm guessing Bob Swain might be up for it too.  Anyone else interested in paddling obsessively every weekend 4 weekends in a row?

I'll also get with Steve Cope and use his Topo software to get more information on the elevations of the runs you don't have listed, we can definitely put that all together.

Sounds great Tom.  It will be sweet to have a DE team registered...i've been talking with some paddlers from PA that are planning on competing as well.

Here is a link to the Vertical page which shows all the eligibile runs for the comp...you can filter by State = Delaware . For a run to be eligible we need the basic run info (run name, river, location, class, putin, takeout, and putin/takeout elevations.  http://www.eddyflower.com/VerticalFeet.aspx

During the comp teams/individuals simply login and select a date, run, # laps and the site automatically calculates the vert for ya...hard part is getting all the run data in prior to the event.

Ideally we'd like to get a good description and photos up for each run as well but that doesnt have to happen.

Keep in mind just because you register a team from DE doesn't mean you can only paddle runs in DE, teams are allowed to paddle runs from any state...game on!

haha, that's good to hear, because there are precisely zero white water runs in Delaware!

Re: EddyFlower Vertical Challenge

We have been hammering on Maryland runs, we still need to work out the elevations or they wont show up on the Vertical page.  Check it out - http://www.eddyflower.com/CountryDetail.aspx?StateId=46

Which states do you paddle in the most?

Tom, what is your email address?

Cheers,
