Has anyone seen a Prius with a roof rack, or better yet, carrying kayaks? It's that curved roof that makes me wonder. Can you put a kayak on top of a prius? My old car is almost ready to retire, and I'm scouting replacements.
Leata,
I don't recall seeing a Prius with a roof rack, but I just checked on EMS website, and Thule lists products for Prius. Susan Love, River II grad drives a late model VW Beetle and uses a roof rack with it to haul rec and ww boats. I think the Beetle has more of a curve than a Prius. Check on both Yakima and Thule sites.

Leata, When I got the rack for my Subaru I had a tough time getting the fit kit together and ended up dropping in to EMS in Newark. It took Steve and I a bit to get it on my car and in the process he mentioned that my fit kit is very similar to the one for the Prius. I have a Thule.
If a stretch kit is available definately get it. I know someone who has a car with a short span between front & back bars & the back rack moved over time & blew off the car while driving down the road with no boats on the car. The stretch kit definately stabilizes it stabilizes it & quiets it down some.

I just searched on Prius, Thule, and kayak and found a couple of useful links:
pictures of a Thule rack on a Prius: http://evnut.com/prius_racks.htm
another place to look for info: http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-main-forum/24763-kayaks-2-roof-rack-trailer.html
a picture from the first link:
Leata, when we were at River II, I saw a Prius with a WW Canoe on top. It was very aesthetically pleasing, with the two curved surfaces. I know this doesn't help, but what did you expect from me. BTW, I have a stretch kit for a Yakima rack system. For you, cheap.
