Sounds interesting.  Ed knows the lines and what the level needs to be to run the dams.  I'd prefer to do the Tohickon this weekend if it is running.

Re: Saturday Brandywine (Wilmington) trip

Various possible scenarios including driving rain on Saturday, flood levels on Sunday, a big bubble coming to Holtwood, the Toh migh be just right one day and not the other, the Muddy will be good either day, etc.  Too early to tell.  Right now I'm figuring to look at gauges early Saturday and see if a morning run Sat would be be best; if not do the same on Sunday.

Re: Saturday Brandywine (Wilmington) trip

How about an early morning Tohickon run?  Should be bigger than last week and next week....and less crowded too.

I might be up for a trip.  Depends on what time we go, and where.

I am up for a trip BOTH Saturday and Sunday and would prefer e.g. the Toh to the Brandywine

Re: Saturday Brandywine (Wilmington) trip

I'm still planning to look at gauges at 6 tomorrow and decide then.  Tohickon tentatively looks good.  I'd suggest that 1000 cfs is the upper limit for first timers on theToh and about 2000 is an upper limit for strong first year paddlers who have already done this river.  Either way get a leader who knows the river at the level you're paddling.  Go with an expectation of swimming.  Other opinions will vary...

Re: Saturday Brandywine (Wilmington) trip

Tohickon is at 374 as of 2:15 today. I would prefer a Toh run. It is as close for me as the Muddy and NO flat water. Plush there IS a gauge on the Toh. Dave, I know the Toh is further for you though. Decisions, decisions!

Remember, there is no gauge on the Muddy!

If we go up to the Toh, Bob and Glen, I'll drive this weekend.

At 8:00 PM the weather forcast is for heavy rain and possible flooding all over the area Saturday morning.

If any of the gauges on the Brandywine, or Toh, are trending sharply upward in the morning tje water may be much to high by the time you get on the water. If the Toh is flowing anything over 2,000 cfs and still rising I would not paddle it.

If the Brandywine is flowing over 4 feet and still rising I woukd not paddle the river. but you can still "park and play" at Brecks Mill at much higher levels.

Holtwood is up to a good level now, and will still be good up to 150,000 cfs or more. It normally will not risw that steeply even during a heavy rain do to the size of the drainage basin.

Scudders Falls is at 20,000 cfs and rising steadily. At this lavel and higher it becomes more of a wave than a hole, and continues to flatten out as the water gets higher.

Wait for tomarrow for a better idea of what conditions to expect.
