Lehigh Release Oct 11-12
Modified By Bob Swain on 10/7/2008 3:54:36 PM)

UPDATE:

Trip itinerary for the weekend is the following updated from previous post today:

Revision to the original trip plan. Tom and I have decided to run White Haven to Rockport both days. Meeting at White Haven put in at 9:30, and ready to run shuttle by 10am at the latest. If anyone would like to still run Rockport to Glen Onoko, please feel free to lead another trip. Sorry, I couldn't post this earlier, but didn't have access to internet until just now. Please email me at bswain@psre.com if you would like to join us. Let me know what day(s) you intend to paddle.

The Army Corps has announced the plans for the final release of the season. There will be a release of up to 1200 cfs both days. Click here for link to ACE announcement. There is also a rumor that there will be a release of 4,000 cfs on Friday Oct 10th. A final announcement on the "super release" is scheduled for Weds Oct 8. I will call today to see if I can get info sooner. Tom Hallady and myself will be leading the trips on Sat and Sun. More information about these trips will follow. (this post has been edited)

Re: Lehigh Release Oct 11-12

This just in from the Northern Area Engineer, George Sauls: There is not enough water in the dam to have a "super release" on Friday. They could have a release of 1200. However, The Corps asked the other agencies involved and it was decided that they did not want to have a weekday release comparable to the weekend release. So, unless there is substantial rain, there will NOT be a release on Friday. The final announcement will be made Wednesday, but for now it looks like just a Saturday and Sunday release.

Count me in for Saturday & Sunday!

Pity there won't be a super-release this year, I was looking forward to that.

This time maybe I'll bring the camera to get some seal-launch video, eh Brian?

Re: Lehigh Release Oct 11-12

Suggestion:

If you shuttle from Rockport to The Glen and back at 9:30 You get back to the put-in ready to paddle at 10:30 plus or minus. If you Meet at the glen and drive to Rockport at 10:00  You get to  the put-in ready to paddle at 10:30 Plus or minus. The Glen is about half an hour closer to Wilmington than Rockport: Therefore people coming from Wilmington, (Most of us) could sleep one hour later in the morning.

Net savings: 1/2 hour shuttle time.

I'm liking that better.

UPDATED: With change in trip to be the upper I will be there but just for Saturday

I concur with Ed. Coming from the South it makes more sense to meet at the Glen Onoko Takeout. There repack boats and vehicles to leave some vehicles for shuttling at the end of the day and take the minimum number of vehicles to the put-in.

There has been a few occassions where when the majority of people did this that those whom were camping just met the rest at Rockport and were given a lift back to Rockport [w/o boats] at the end of the day to pick up their vehicle so they could then shuttle to pick up boats and passengers at GO.

Re: Lehigh Release Oct 11-12

Would anyone like to paddle the lower section, Rockport to Glen Onoko, on Saturday? it probably makes sense for someone else to lead the trip since I will be away from phone & emails from early afternoon on Wednesday through late Thursday evening. However, I am willing to lead if no one else volunteers. Sheella, CreativeLearning @ mindspring.com, (302) 738-4173.
