Lower Brandywine - April 5'th
Modified By Tom Halladay on 4/14/2008 1:27:44 PM)

Some people have asked me about paddling the Lower Section of the Brandywine. (The section that is slandered on the American Whitewater web site by some no nothing outsider who only paddled it once and doesn't know a paddle from a poodle)  This is a trip rarely run on  a scheduled trip basis, and there are some hazards lurking for the unprepared, but at a good level all of the eleven dams are runnable. This weekend might be good time to do that depending on how much rain we get on Friday. Minimum level would be about 2.5 ft. at Chads Ford. Maximum about 4.5 ft. Anyone interested Let me know and leave your e-mail address erohrbach@casaccio.com, or call me at 302-475-3202. I  should have a good idea as to river level by friday night

Re: Lower Brandywine Trip

I'm probably in on this.  If we were to do this, what time would put-in be?

And is the lower section the Lenape to Thompson Bridge Road bit or is it the Mortonville to Lenape bit?

If it is at a good level, I would like to run it. I always wanted to run all the Dams. Also there is a nice big wave in front of Hagleys Museum. Ed knows about it. I think his son surfed it at an unbelievable level. I am ready to kayak every weekend now. Yea Ha There might also be a run at the Muddy. That would be good to do one day and the other the other day

Tom: The lower Brandywine is "From Thompsons Bridge to The Wilmington Zoo. See description on AWA rivers page: State of Delaware.

Water is good right now. Trip is on.  Meet at the Put-in. The parking lot at Thompsons Bridge at 10:30 AM . Saturday. This is also the take-out place for the canoe rentals on the section above. If you don't know how to get there let me know.

Re: Lower Brandywine Trip

Do you think this would be a good spot for someone to take pictures of us as we pass?
