I'm interested in taking a group of first timers and people less comfortable on the Tohickon for a trip early morning Saturday 3/20. This trip would be slow and we would stop at nearly every rapid, get out of our boats and scout from the shore. We'd discuss the rapid, and anyone who wanted to portage could do so. If you have beeen reluctant to go to the Toh, this trip may be your introduction. It might also provide us with some practice with scouting and river reading. Expect to launch early to beat the crowds and to work your way down the river in a leisurely way. This trip might not satisfy the more adventurous paddlers - see the Whitewater Kayakers of Delaware site for that. However we will need to have some experienced paddlers join us for safety.
I'll run this trip if there's enough interest (and safety); otherwise I plan to join the other group. So post here if you're interested. If you have questions, contact me at dcsibley@comcast.net
Dave! Thanks so much for offering to take a trip down the Toh this way. I'm definitely interested, but am a weather wuss, so if its 25 degrees and snowing, I might have to reconsider.
So, exactly how early are we talking?
Probably meet at the put in at 7:30 AM. The release water reaches the put in between 8:30 and 8:45 and we'll want to launch at 8:45.
Dave,
I am interesting in tagging along on that trip and helping out with safety. I will let you know as soon as I can.
Radley
Susan, it looks like it's going to be in the 50s! It will be fun.
If a newbie could tag along, I would love to go.
James, please send me an email at dcsibley@comcast.net to let me know your experience. Thanks
I have a research project that I am conducting during that week and I may not be able to make it up in time, but we will see. Toh was beautiful yesterday.... Looking like the release is going to be just as nice! Hopefully all the snow melts as we kayakers took up all of the available parking at the put in yesterday!
Count me in.
Count me in as support, and Tim as a newbie.
Be location.
This trip is now full, if you are new to the Tohickon. We won't be adding people who show up unannounced at the put in. We have enough safety but would always welcome another safety person. I will be emailing everyone on the list with details. Contact me at dcsibley@comcast.net if you have questions.
Ed, Tom said you know of another location for parking/camping since the lot on the DE is under water.
Please call me about this. 302-354-2873.
Thanks, Bob
Due to a cancellation and some added safety people we have room for one or 2 more first timers on this trip. Contact me ASAP at dcsibley@comcast.net.
