Due to popular demand, this course is offered again at Turners Creek. Instruction will be coordinated by Christina Older, Kalindi Dogra, Bob Strahorn, Wes Young and Louise Young.
Turners Creek is a protected branch of the Sassafras River. There will be a short afternoon paddle after the training.
The course focuses on how to self-rescue and also assist in a rescue event while on Open Water.
The training will cover self-rescue using a paddle float, and assisted rescue techniques where you help a capsized paddler back into their kayak. Included techniques will be the hook, stirrup and scoop rescues. This is also a great opportunity to refresh and practice your recue skills. This training is recommeneded for all recreational paddlers.
No special equipment is required. If you have a paddle float, pump or rescue sling, bring them along with your kayak, PFD and paddle.
You will get WET. Bring a change of clothes, lunch, water and sunscreen. There will be a paddle around Turner's Creek after the training.
Kayak and gear rentals are available.
