Susan Wentz and Craig Lesser will be leading/coordinating the traditional holiday weekend trip to paddle the Lower Yough. Alternate rivers such as the Stony, Casselman, or Cheat Narrows are all within reasonable distance if water levels dictate. We are camping at Benner's Meadow Run, which has tent camping, RV sites, or cabins if still available. Keep in mind that this is a holiday wekend and campsites will fill up fast.
The lower Yough is a class III river, so you will need sufficient experience if you are considering this trip for the first time. Please PM myself or Susan if you are ineterested in going, but have not paddled this river. Please respond to this post if you are ineterested in attending as we need to purchase paddling passes in advance.
We hope to see you on the river!
Note that there are must make moves on this river and if you can't make them you will swim, if you don't have a roll. This river is a step up from the Lehigh and you must have paddle the Upper or the Lower sections (White Haven to Glen Onoko section) several times and be confident in running the Lehigh. You have to know how to peel out, eddy turn and have a good brace or roll.
So if you have never paddled this river, you must contact Craig or I in order to paddle this river because we need to assess your skills. If your skills are not up to paddling the Lower Yough, we will not allow you on our trip for your and our safety. You must get a good recommendation from your instructor, if you just finished the training this year.
Considering cancelling the Labor Day weekend trip to Ohioplyle based on current interest. Will make a final decision on August 18th.
